Welcome to Turkey! My biggest surprise? It's beautiful!

Our first glimpse as we got to port. See what I mean?

John lived here in a similar house like this with Mary for seven years, before she died. It is said he built the house for her.

If Mary lived here with John, maybe I should go the library to see if there are any books about it. This happens to be the 3rd largest in the ancient world, having held over 12000 scrolls!

On the way to the library, the sailors coming in would see this on the ground. This symbol was a "Sign" saying, "A little bit on the left there are beautiful women, who in spite of their broken heart would give you love." Yep! Ephesus had a "red light district" right across from the library and the ...

This ampitheater was there in the time of Paul, (see Acts 19:23-41), and still has concerts. It can seat 10,000 today.

Before we go, let's leave by the way of the sea. On this road Marc Antony and Cloepatra arrived by chariots for their honeymoon, and made this their winter place.

We can't leave Turkey without checking out the amazing, hand crafted rugs!

Some of our group bought a rug that they will treasure forever and beyond. Speaking of beyond, let's head to Patmos!

Now it's time to go to the Island of Patmos, where John was exiled at age 90+. We will have to take a "tender" to get there.

Wow! The Island of Patmos is beautiful. (Although at the time of John it only had bushes and was quite desolate.)

Let's head up to the church that bears John's name. It's a hike, but I think it will be worth it.

Whew! It was a climb to the top but we made it. There are still 60 active monks that work here.

Here's a view from the back side of the top. Now on to the cave, where John wrote Revelation.

Through that door is the cave (the only cave on the island) where John received God's revelation. (Revelation 1:9). Unfortunately, you will have to come here and see it for yourself, as they wouldn't let me take any pictures.

I could, however, take pictures of his view from the cave. This is it! There would have been no trees or houses at the time he was there. Pretty desolate. It's a good thing he knew how to fish!

Before leaving let's grab some gelato in this quaint Patmos village.Mmmm it is delicious. See you tomorrow . . .
